Ole Miss Baseball 2012 Walk Out Songs

Every year I get dozens of calls, texts, and e-mails from fans asking what the new walkout songs are going to be for the players entering the season. Below is the first draft of songs. As you know most players do not end the year with the same songs they begin with. My personal favorite has to be "Return of the Mack." Be sure to comment with your favorites.

Ole Miss Baseball Media Guide Online

The 2012 edition of the Ole Miss baseball media guide is online now and fans can go check it out at the official Ole Miss website or place an order for one as we kick off the 2012 baseball season.

The Rebels take the field this weekend for a three-game set at #10 TCU with the first pitch Friday night set for 6:30 p.m.

Swayze Field Ranked Second For Gameday

It's something Ole Miss fans have known for years, but many on the national level are quickly catching on that Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field is the place to be in the spring to truly experience college baseball.

Swayze Field was ranked the second best college baseball stadium and atmosphere in America on Wednesday, paying tibute to the support Ole Miss baseball has received in the last decade. That's a testament to the work that head coach Mike Bianco and company have put in to build Rebel baseball into a player on the national secene.

More importantly, it's a testament to a fan base that has grown rabid in its support of its baseball program and come out to do its part to make Swayze Field one of the best places to be for a weekend of college baseball in America. From Sweet Caroline to the Love Is Gone to a guy in a mask in left field with his own theme song, there's no shortage of entertainment and some unique traditions in Oxford in the spring.

Date Set For Grove Bowl 2012

It's quite a ways off, but for those of you getting an early start on your spring plans, Grove Bowl 2012 has been tentatively set for April 21 at 1 p.m. CT. The Rebel baseball team hosts Arkansas that weekend, and game two of the series will follow the football scrimmage at 4 p.m. And if you were wondering, Oxford's Double Decker Arts Festival will be the following weekend, April 27-28.

Pomeranz Called Up To Major Leagues

Former Rebel and 2010 SEC Pitcher of the Year Drew Pomeranz became the eighth Ole Miss player to get the call to the Majors when the Colorado Rockies called up the left-handed hurler over the weekend.

Pomeranz is expected to join the Rockies today after a whirlwind season that has included a trade from Cleveland to Colorado and an appendectomy. Read more about Pomeranz getting called up here.

Phil Irwin Sings National Anthem

Former Rebel pitcher Phil Irwin got the call the other day to take the field, but instead of hitting the mound his first stop was behind the microphone. The right-hander sang the national anthem prior to the start of the game for the Altoona Curve on Thursday night.

Overbeck Delivers For Lehigh Valley

Former Rebel Cody Overbeck has been producing for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Overbeck hit a walk-off home run the other night for his team, pushing them to a 2-1 win over the Toledo Mud Hens.

Snyder Recovering From Injury, Returns To Field

Justin Granit with the ABC affiliate in Winchester, Virginia, recently did a piece on Ole Miss baseball player Matt Snyder and his return to the field after suffering a potentially career-ending injury earlier this summer. Snyder was hit in the face by a pitch that broke several bones.

Cozart Homers

Former Rebel shortstop Zack Cozart got his first MLB home run over the weekend to help the Cincinnati Reds claim a series win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The shot to left field extended the lead to 3-1 for the Reds in Sunday's game. Cozart scored two of the three runs for the Reds.

On the flip side of things, it came at the expense of former Rebel pitcher Lance Lynn who was on the mound for the Cardinals at the time.

UPDATED (Again): Summer Brings More New Rebels

There has been a change in plans since yesterday's post. While Tobias Singleton was admitted for Ole Miss' second summer term, he had already missed the first three days of both of his classes and felt it would be best to hold off on beginning classes until the fall semester. His eligibility -- like all of our newcomers that are enrolled -- is not a concern. Tobias simply wants to get a fresh start in August.

We mentioned in our original blogpost that there could be additions to our list of newcomers enrolled in the second summer term, and today brought one -- All-American wide receiver Tobias Singleton. That means 21 of the 23 football signees are already on campus. I'm looking at you strength coach Don Decker!

Ole Miss' second summer term got underway today, which brought 16 additions to the Rebel Family. Among the new scholarship student-athletes admitted for the session are six from baseball, four each from football and women's basketball and two from men's basketball. Notable in the group is Murphy Holloway, who is beginning his second stint on the Ole Miss hoops squad, and Boston Red Sox draftee Senquez Golson, who is opting for Vaught-Hemingway Stadium instead of Fenway Park. It should be noted that students have until Tuesday to enroll in the term so there could be additions.

Military Appreciation Weekend-Ole Miss vs. #2 South Carolina

Ole Miss baseball will honor members of the United States Armed Forces this weekend during the series against South Carolina as a part of Military Appreciation Weekend at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

Military personnel will be admitted free with presentation of their military ID, and a member representing a different branch of the military will throw out the first pitch prior to each contest with the Gamecocks. The combined ROTC color guard will also be on hand to present the colors on Friday and Saturday.

Email a picture of your service member in uniform to rebtalk@olemiss.edu for a chance to see them displayed on the video board at the baseball games throughout the weekend. Picture files need to be in jpeg format and no larger than 5 MB. We will also need the service member’s name, military branch, rank and hometown.

Fans can also tweet a personal message thanking the military to @OleMissNow with a chance to see their message displayed on the video board during one of the weekend games. Use the hash tag #REDwhiteBLUE to identify your tweet as a message of thanks for use on the video board.

Presley Focused On Finding Role With MLB's Pirates

Former Rebel outfielder Alex Presley was called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates last year to make the sixth Rebel to jump into the Majors in the last five years. The outfielder recently sat down with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette to talk about his future with the Pirates and his outlook on how to make himself a valuable part of the Pittsburgh club.

Bianco Visits NWCC Kick Off Dinner

Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco attended the second annual Kick Off Dinner at Northwest Community College on Wednesday night where he was the keynote speaker. He took some time after the dinner to speak with Kevin Maloney of NWCC. You can watch the video below.

Spring Football Nears

Ole Miss' spring practice slate will open on March 28. Tentative dates include March 28, 29, 31, April 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 16 (Grove Bowl). Time for the Grove Bowl has been tentatively set for 1 p.m. CT on April 16.

Stay tuned for some exciting new events surrounding Grove Bowl week. Other sports competing on campus that weekend include Baseball hosting Kentucky in a three-game set and Women's Tennis facing rival Mississippi State on Saturday.

Former Rebel Heads Local HS Baseball Team

Former Rebel Kary Bridges was named the head baseball coach for Water Valley High School this week. A three-year letterwinner (1991-93) from Hattiesburg, Bridges was a second team All-SEC outfielder in 1993, when he batted .362 with 14 doubles, 31 RBI and 24 stolen bases. He was drafted in the 10th round by the Houston Astros and spent 10 years in the minors.

ESPNU Highlights Dash For Hash

As we reported on the main site, last month's "Dash For Hash" was a huge success, as more than 500 people took part to raise money for former Rebel baseball player Taylor Hashman. The event and Taylor's recovery was featured this week on ESPNU in a story produced by Ole Miss student and ESPNU Campus Connection talent Allison Croghan.

9/11 Hits Home For New Rebel

There was no shortage of emotion around our great nation yesterday, as the events of Sept. 11 were remembered. It held particular meaning for the family of first-year baseball Rebel Tanner Bailey. His stepmother Deena Burnett Bailey's then husband Tom was one of 40 passengers on the third hijacked plane. Read more in the Pleasantown (Calif.) Patch.

Presley Gets Hit In MLB Debut

Former Rebel outfielder Alex Presley got a hit in his Major League debut on Wednesday night, coming up with an infield single in the ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves. Presley is the most recent Rebel to make it to the Majors when he was called up by Pittsburgh on Monday evening.

Alex Presley Makes MLB Roster

Former Rebel outfield Alex Presley became the most recent player under head coach Mike Bianco to make it to the Major Leagues as a part of September recalls by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Presley was called up to the Triple A Indianapolis Indians and has had a solid season in both Double A and Triple A ball this year, prompting the parent club to add his name to the roster Monday night.
