There's A First Time For Everything

No team has ever won the USGA Women’s State Team Championship more than once since the biennial event began in 1995. Georgia could be the first. Led by former Rebel and two-time All-American Dori Carter, Georgia holds a four stroke lead over South Carolina after the first round at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Carter shot a 3-under 69 to lead the three-person team from the Peach State to a 1-under 143 total. The best two out of three scores make up the total score.

Rebel assistant coach Alexis Rather is a member of the Mississippi Team, who stands tied for third.

Carter's low round earned her a spotlight on the front page of the official tournament site.
