The fourth-straight QB in our countdown, Jimmy "King" Lear engineered the Rebels' historic 21-14 win over No. 3 Maryland in 1952. The win helped Ole Miss reach the Sugar Bowl for the first time in school history and started a string of seven Sugar Bowl appearances in 12 seasons for the Rebels.

I attended that game, Maryland had an All-American QB by the name of Jack Scarbath. If memory serves me correctly Marlyand was rated #1 in the nation and had been beaten by Alabama dthe previous week, then came to Oxford to play the Rebels. One of Lears favorite target was James Mask, from Oxford, and they played very good that day. I beleive Ole Miss also beat Kentucky that year and faced another All-American QB by the name of Babe Parilli. Guessing that was the year that Ole Miss played Ga Tech in the Sugar Bowl.
